A truly amazing experience! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Very well organised from start to finish. Safety was paramount. We had Johnny from the UK as our pilot and he made it a very memorable day. Champagne breakfast followed the smooth landing. A wonderful way to experience the Serengeti!
Balloon flight was from Central Seregenti Sero on 10th March. Frank the pilot was superb throughout, from the initial briefing through the flight itself and then the post flight. Flight was a fantastic experience, only disappointment for me was the lack of animals observed. I do however appreciate that with a ballon flight this is largely out of the pilot's control. Overall though enjoyed the experiance.
This was the highlight of our trip to The Serengeti and an experience we’ll never forget. The views and vast expanse of The Serengeti are truly amazing. The experience was extremely well organised and we felt totally safe with our pilot, Ed. The champagne breakfast was delicious and a lovely ending to our flight.
The best way to describe this trip is unforgettable, everything was so great, I had an amazing time, crew was excellent and on point, I really enjoyed this trip, I recommend it to anyone visiting. This will always be a trip to remember.

Why fly a hot air balloon over the Serengeti at dawn
Every flight in the park leaves at first light, and not for the photographs, or not only. Dawn is when the air over the plains is at its calmest and coolest, which is what balloon pilots want under them, and it is when the grasslands are busiest: the night shift heading home, the day shift moving out. By mid-morning the thermals build and the flying window closes, which is why there is no afternoon balloon anywhere in the Serengeti, and why the pickup knock on your tent comes before 5am.

What happens on flight morning
The schedule belongs to the sun and the wind, not the operator, so every flight in the park runs the same arc. What the operators compete on is everything around it: the transfer, the pilot's commentary, and the table waiting on the grass.
4:30-6:00am, your camp A driver collects you in the dark. How early depends on how far your camp sits from the morning's launch site; the confirmation sets your exact time the evening before.
First light, the launch site The envelope is laid out flat and the fans roar it full of cold air before the burners take over. Tea and coffee appear while you watch. The safety briefing covers the landing position, then you climb into the basket compartments.
50 to 70 minutes aloft The pilot rides different altitudes to find direction: treetop-low over the rivers to look for hippo and elephant, then high enough to see the plains curve away. Between burner blasts it is astonishingly quiet.
The landing A skid and a drag on the grass, which is normal and briefed. The crew follows in vehicles, the sparkling wine comes out, and tradition says the toast dates to the first balloonists placating angry farmers.
